Call-for-Action: Tell Congress to extend the National Flood Insurance Program
Did you know that eight in 10 states that declared flood disasters over the past decade were in inland states. That's why available and affordable flood insurance is critical to our nation and its economy.
However, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) will expire on July 31, denying necessary insurance coverage to homeowners and home buyers in more than 20,000 communities nationwide. Tell Congress it must act now to reform and extend the NFIP.
Over 5 million homeowners in 22,000 communities around the country rely on the NFIP to provide flood insurance. If Congress allows a lapse in the NFIP, NAR estimates that 40,000 real estate transactions would be at stake each month the program is shut down. We can't allow any more uncertainty in our real estate markets – it's time for Congress to pass a long-term reauthorization that includes much needed reforms to support a robust and lasting NFIP.
Help us avoid another shutdown of the NFIP. As a REALTOR®, it's extremely important that you get involved by answering NAR's Call-for-Action to urge Congress to reform and reauthorize the NFIP. Take action here to ensure Congress extends the NFIP and passes meaningful reforms to ensure long-term viability of the program.
